For Avebe we are recruiting for a Safety Specialist. Do you have a Higher or Academic education in a relevant discipline? In this role Avebe offers you a unique opportunity to get to know and understand the whole company, its business and strategy. As well as operations, the safety specialist will connect with and support Avebe’s innovations, agro and commerce organisations in an appropriate way.

Job Description

The safety specialist has a senior position and is responsible for driving forward safety within Avebe. Our ambitions include behavioural based safety programs, process safety improvement and better learning from incidents. We are looking for a self-starter who can pick up these topics independently and bring them to life in the entire organisation. Locally you will need to be able to generate enthusiasm based on personal engagement as well as expertise. At the same time, you must ensure commonality through company-wide programs. You will work closely with site-based safety specialists and QESH managers as well as various central expertise departments.

This senior role is well suited to an experienced HSE specialist or manager looking for a multi-site role. It offers a unique opportunity to get to know and understand the whole company, its business and strategy. As well as operations, the safety specialist will connect with and support Avebe’s innovations, agro and commerce organisations in an appropriate way. Consequently, candidates having a strong technical, project or operational track record who are looking for a broadening step in their careers before moving on in 3-5 years will be given serious consideration and the opportunity to follow the required specialist education & training.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Drive forward and coordinate a multi-site behavioural based safety program;
  • Develop an overview of companywide process safety risks and advise on the extent to which they are controlled;
  • Provide or know when & where to get expert advice in this area;
  • Coordinate central incident reporting and support all sites in this (‘Primecase’ owner). Provide definitive data for Avebe’s KPI reporting on HSE;
  • Investigate incidents professionally & independently upon request and distribute learnings effectively;
  • Advise local organizations and director QESH on various aspects of safety including Dutch regulatory matters.

The central QESH department is responsible for policy and support on all issues concerning quality, environment, safety and health within Avebe.

Candidate Profile

Requirements and experience:

  • Experience in Health, Safety & Environment directly or able to demonstrate this through a technical, project or operational role;
  • Experience in changing organisational behaviour;
  • Understanding of process safety risk assessment and management;
  • You work and report in a structured fashion and deal with day to day issues without losing sight of medium term goals;
  • You are able to engage at many levels in the organisation - for example from supporting a maintenance crew establish a safe work area to giving feedback & advice to a site dirtor. You are never seen as ‘policeman’ in the way you work but you can nevertheless talk straight and hold your line when needed;
  • Higher/academic education in a relevant discipline;
  • A relevant vocational qualification (e.g. HVK (NL), NEBOSH (UK) or equiv.) or willingness to obtain this;
  • Excellent English & Dutch language skills. Additionally, strong spoken German and/or Swedish are a clear advantage;
  • Time-flexible and willing to travel frequently in Europe.
